Door County Learning in Retirement President Jeff Schmeckpeper presented a certificate to educator Laurence “Larry” D. Desotell in October, establishing the Laurence D. Desotell Scholarship.
Established to honor Desotell’s continuing commitment to American history education, the scholarship will be awarded each year to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) students from Door County who exemplify excellence in education.
“The Laurence D. Desotell Scholarship [is] in tribute to the enduring legacy of excellence, compassion and dedication demonstrated by Larry Desotell in the field of education in connection with his many classes at Door County Learning in Retirement,” reads part of the certificate.
The scholarship was jointly underwritten by Door County Learning in Retirement and NWTC Foundation at the Collins Learning Center at Crossroads at Big Creek upon the completion of Desotell’s 50th class since 2012.
