The Exchange Club of Monroe has announced its scholarship recipients for 2025. According to an announcement, the awards include the Youth of the Year Award, the Legacy Award, the Accepting the Challenge of Excellence Award, and the Garry A. Markle Memorial Award.
Mia Karl, a senior at Ida High School, received the Youth of the Year scholarship. This award is given to a high school senior who has shown high levels of academic achievement, community involvement and leadership. Mia is the daughter of Albert and Renee Karl and plans to attend Lourdes University in the fall.
Emily Shankleton, a senior at Monroe County Middle College, is the recipient of the Legacy Award. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior who is a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild of an Exchange Club member. Emily’s parents are Aaron and Ashley Shankleton, and she is the granddaughter of Exchange Club member Michael LaHote. She will attend the University of Findlay in the fall.
Lilliana Barth, also a senior at Ida High School, has been awarded the Accepting the Challenge of Excellence (A.C.E.) Scholarship. This award recognizes a senior who has overcome significant personal challenges while maintaining high performance standards. Lilliana’s parents are Brittany and Brandon Barth, and she plans to attend Monroe County Community College in the fall.
Caleb Hendrick, a senior at St. Mary Catholic Central High School, received the Garry A. Markle Memorial Scholarship Award. This scholarship is for new college entrants pursuing education in engineering. Caleb is the son of Andrew and Jennifer Hendrick and will attend the University of Toledo in the fall.
The award recipients were honored at the Exchange Club of Monroe’s Annual Awards ceremony on May 22 at the Monroe County Community College La Z Boy Center.
