BROWNWOOD – November 26, 2024 – Howard Payne University hosted alumni and friends on November 23 at the Legacy Luncheon, a special event celebrating the impact scholarships and giving have on students and the campus. During the program, gratitude for support was expressed by university administrators, alumni and students. The event was held in the Bullion Suites of the Mabee University Center.
The luncheon honored university supporters who have endowed scholarships, have been named to the Robnett Legacy Society because of their participation in planned giving or have become a part of the 1889 Society by giving $1,889 or more within the 2023-2024 fiscal year. The founders of 10 endowed scholarships at HPU, which have been established over the last five years, were also recognized during the program.
“We were honored to invite alumni and friends of Howard Payne University to campus so we could express our gratitude for their generosity, which makes it possible to offer the Christ-centered higher education that the university provides,” said Dr. Dale Meinecke ’98, vice president for advancement. “God has blessed our university in so many ways and events like the Legacy Luncheon allow us to express thanksgiving for the people He uses to do His work.”
Dr. Diann Huber ’71, founder of iteach, was the guest speaker for the luncheon. She provided reflections on her experiences as a student at HPU and why she continues to stay connected to the university. Dr. Huber shared personal remarks on the different seasons of life and God’s faithfulness.
During the event, remarks were given by Charles Lewis ’21, director of development; Rachel Baergen, a senior majoring in middle school English education; Deaven Connelly, a junior mathematics education and Guy D. Newman Honors Academy major; Dr. Meinecke; and Dr. Cory Hines ’97, HPU president. HPU Trustees Marc Dingler ’84 and Rev. L.J. Clayton, Jr. ’78 led in prayer during the program. Music for the event was provided by Ana Birch, a freshman majoring in Bible, and Lily King, a sophomore music education major.
Student scholarship recipients were also in attendance at the luncheon and sat with donors connected to their scholarships.
“It was meaningful for students to be able to meet individuals who have contributed to their education and for donors to see the amazing students who they help support,” said Dr. Meinecke. “The Legacy Luncheon helps everyone involved see the future leaders who are being educated and equipped at Howard Payne University to go out and be change-agents in the world.”
