Sketchy scholarship fund fears the light of day
To the Editor: Please report more on New Hampshire’s education voucher program.
Why isn’t there a complete audit of this program just as there is for most any other program using taxpayer dollars?
Why is our voucher program with the New York-based Children’s Scholarship Fund, which is the sole-source contract to manage it and distribute the money?
When the audit was done, important information was missing. Why would Commissioner Frank Edelblut say the state isn’t compelled to ask for those documents and that asking the Children’s Scholarship Fund for the items violates the separation of powers between the legislative and executive branches? What happened to our checks and balances?
Why is this not subject to the same rules as every other department and certainly public school budgets?
