Lewiston-Auburn community fundraises for scholarship in memory of a teen who died last year – WMTW

Community members in Lewiston and Auburn participated in a memorial fundraiser to honor the life of an Auburn teen on Friday evening.
“He was just like a typical kid,” said Hill’s mother, Heather Hill. “We had no idea that he was struggling.”
Seventeen-year-old Elliott Hill died by suicide last summer, shocking the community he grew up in. Hill was a baseball player at his high school and played music in two different bands.
“He was like one of those kids that just liked to make everybody around him happy,” Heather Hill said. “When he went into a room, he lit it up with his smile.”
Now, over a year later, Hill’s family continues to honor his life as well as spread awareness for mental health. A memorial fund in his name was created.
The Elliott Edgar Hill Scholarship fund helps to give scholarships to students at Edward Little High School who want to pursue trade school, just like Hill did.
Rodney Hill, the teen’s father, says the event will help fund many more scholarships in the future.
As parents who still grieve the loss of their child, they’re hoping more kids can get the support that they need.
“Tell people that you love, tell people who love you or tell people that you know, that you’re not OK,” Rodney Hill said.
