LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School senior Lilyan Ryan is a recipient of the Chick Evans Scholarship, which is the nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies.
Lilyan has been a caddie for three summers at Edgewood Valley Country Club in Bolingbrook, her mom, Laura, told Patch.
“She is the ninth Lemont High School student to receive this award since 2008,” Laura said.
The Chick Evans Scholarship is a full housing and tuition scholarship, which recognizes caddies who demonstrate excellence in academics, leadership, and outstanding character, and is valued at more than $125,000 over four years, according to a post from Lemont High School.
“Her father encouraged her to be a caddie, since she is a golfer and because that was his job from seventh grade through high school and he loved it,” Laura said.
Lemont High School said on its Facebook that Lilyan has been a member of both the girls’ golf and girls’ wrestling programs at Lemont, and will know her college destination in the spring.
The Western Golf Association oversees the Evans Scholars Foundation, which administers the scholarship.
