On Wednesday, the auxiliary board held their summer meeting and handed out scholarships to a handful of local students who are pursuing a career in the medical field.
LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Some local students getting a financial boost for college thanks to the Lima Memorial Health System Auxiliary Board.
On Wednesday, the auxiliary board held their summer meeting and handed out scholarships to a handful of local students who are pursuing a career in the medical field. Four scholarships were handed out for $2,000 each from the Lima Memorial Auxiliary, and three scholarships for $4,000 each were handed out from the Lima Memorial Nursing Alumnae Association.
One of the scholarships awarded was the Bonnie Shook Memorial Scholarship, which is given to a teen volunteer at Lima Memorial who shows exemplary service. This year’s winner, Gabe Hile, is honored to be selected.
“It feels great and I’m grateful for it, because with the money, I can use it for college,” said Hile. “I plan on being a physical therapy assistant, so the extra $2,000 will help with with the total cost.”
Scholarship chair Karen Phillips of the Auxiliary explained how it makes her feel when the auxiliary rewards these students for their hard work: “My heart is beating very, very fast right now because of the honor of being able to give these three their scholarships.”
