A local high school senior is now one of only 16,000 semifinalists in the United States for a scholarship.
The Manitowoc Public School District says that Lincoln High School senior Tor Seilheimer is a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship, which is one of the nation’s most prestigious academic competitions.
MPSD explains that the scholarship recognizes high-achieving students based on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Testing scores, educational records, and essays.
Seilheimer said he was very excited to learn about the news.
When asked who or what experience has inspired him the most, Tor said, “I would probably say my band teacher, Mrs. Nyenhuis, because she always inspires me to improve my playing and be a leader.”
Tor is an active band member playing instruments including clarinet, tenor saxophone, and trumpet.
He’s also a member of the Future Business Leaders Association, where he’s working on a programming project for this year’s competition.
In the future, Seilheimer plans to attend college and double major in music and math or geology.
