HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) – Saturday, a group of loved ones gathered together to walk in honor of their son, brother and friend.
The LMC Epilepsy Walk at Harrison Central High School commemorates the life of Lance Michael Carter, a local music producer and former band member at the high school, who died from epilepsy.
“So my brother passed away in 2014/15 and immediately after we wanted to come up with a way to kinda let his legacy live on. He was a music producer in the community and he worked with a lot of people and we wanted to be able to kinda like keep his name alive,” said Carter’s sister Kimberly Turner. “So we decided that maybe we should gather once a year to kind of raise awareness for epilepsy. And also raise money to provide a music scholarship here at Harrison Central to an aspiring musician that’s also a band student.”
Turner says so far, the LMC Foundation has given out 4 or 5 scholarships in Carter’s honor.
Former classmate, Larry Miller, remembers Lance as “just somebody that people admired and wanted to be with.”
“Lance was an amazing personality. He was larger than life. He was somebody that everybody gravitated to,” recalled Miller. “He made everybody laugh. He was just an all-around fun loving and entertaining guy.”
Miller says next year, they will be releasing Lance’s music to all streaming sites so that everyone can listen and look back at the good times.
