Beachwood senior Josh Rosenblitt started pitching when he was 7 years old. Four years later, he began to feel his talents on the mound were different than others.
Now, a few years later, the record books at Beachwood High School prove that.
Rosenblitt, 18, is listed among the top three in most all-time pitching categories in school history. By the end of this coming season, barring something unforeseen, Rosenblitt will own all of those records.
“I’m definitely excited about this season,” Rosenblitt told the Cleveland Jewish News. “I’ve been lucky to have a lot of success in the past few years, and there’s definitely a ton of anticipation for the team this year. There’s been a lot of work and practice this winter, so it is time for that to pay off and make this experience pretty fun.”
He recently committed to play college baseball at Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. The team is a member of the Horizon League, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I.
“One main factor is that the distance from home is pretty short,” Rosenblitt said. “One of the big things I noticed on my visits was that everyone seems very happy to be there. They get along very well and I think that’s something that not every program is able to say.”
Prior to the start of the 2025 season, which begins March 29, Rosenblitt, statistically, is the best in school baseball history for earned run average (1.21) and career no-hitters (3) through his three years. He is second in career wins (16) and innings pitched (149).
The school record for innings pitched is held by Aaron Schwartz with 176. Rosenblitt is poised to break that record. He is tied for career strikeouts with 246 and needs only one more win to tie the school record for victories with 17.
In those latter categories, No. 1 on the list is Brad Goldberg, who graduated from Beachwood in 2008 and is assistant pitching coach for the Cleveland Guardians.
“I honestly don’t know how many records I still have,” Goldberg told the CJN. “It’s the first time I’ve been asked that, but I’m super happy for Josh. I hope the high school does well and I wish him all the success down the road. I hope these sort of things continue to be broken and that the program is healthy. They’re good kids.”
Rosenblitt tries not to overplay these bouts with the Beachwood record books, but enjoys those rewards.
“I think it’s pretty cool to see that I have the opportunity to break all these records,” Rosenblitt said. “It just shows that all the hard work I’ve put in is paying off.”
“He’s a fierce competitor,” Bison second-year coach Matt Lamovec told the CJN. “He’s constantly out there trying to compete, but he’s also very smart. He understands the game very well, and he studies the game. A lot of times we’ll get into a game and he’ll know the hitters on the other team, either from just playing against him in the summer or just by knowing the scouting reports. I think that’s what puts him at a higher level than most players, just understanding the situation and anticipating what’s going to happen next. He’s just very cerebral.”
Rosenblitt has been hard at work during the offseason, and refines his pitches at Velocity Sports in Canton.
“Josh Rosenblitt will go down as one of Beachwood’s best athletes, one of the most accomplished athletes ever to walk these halls,” Beachwood Athletic Director Ryan Peters said in a news release.
Rosenblitt met Goldberg a few years ago at an Ohio State University baseball camp.
“I was way younger and neither of us probably really remember much about it,” Rosenblitt said.
Soon, Goldberg’s last remaining records at Beachwood will become property of Rosenblitt. It is one of the Guardians pitchers Goldberg coaches, Tanner Bibee, whom Rosenblitt emulates.
“I think we have some similarities and it’s kind of cool to see and take some things that he does and translate it to my game,” Rosenblitt said.
