Fifteen Latino high school seniors from across Santa Barbara County — nine from northern Santa Barbara County — were celebrated at the Craft House at Corque in Solvang on May 15 for their academic achievement and dedication to community and culture.
Each student received a $3,500 scholarship through the Santa Barbara Mariachi Festival, with additional $1,000 awards going to five students involved in the performing arts.
Now in its 28th year, the nonprofit festival has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships, helping Latino students pursue higher education with pride. Recipients were recognized by Congressman Salud Carbajal and the Mexican Consulate and gifted custom graduation stoles from sponsor Chava Stitch-N-Print.
The evening included performances by Mariachi Rosales and DJ Peetey, and speeches by past scholarship recipients Viviana Galindo and Celeste Gonzales, who shared how the festival’s support shaped their lives and careers.
Applications are managed in partnership with the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara. Scholarships are awarded to seniors of Latino/Hispanic heritage with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Sponsorships for the 2025 scholarship program are now open. For details, contact Erika Aldaz at 805-722-4197 or mariachifestivalsb@gmail.com.
