Two St. Charles Parish graduates, Braden Genius of Hahnville High School and Danica Gautreaux of Destrehan High School, have been selected as recipients of the 2025 LJB Legal Injury and Disability Scholarship. The scholarship, now in its second year, was created by local attorney Loyd J Bourgeois to recognize and support students who have overcome personal adversity related to injury, illness, or disability, either personally or within their immediate family.
Braden Genius, who will attend Louisiana Tech University, faced and persevered through a serious injury during his high school years. Despite these hardships, Braden remained committed to his education and passions. He earned National Merit Finalist recognition with a 35 ACT score and was involved in cross-country, track, tennis, National Honor Society, and Beta Club. Braden also competed at the state level in cross-country and has completed multiple long-distance races outside of school, including marathons and half marathons.
Danica Gautreaux will attend Louisiana State University, where she plans to major in Kinesiology. Throughout her time at Destrehan High School, Danica navigated significant personal and family challenges that shaped her resilience and drive to help others. She remained dedicated to her goals, becoming involved in National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Beta Club, and several other school organizations. She also gave back to her community through volunteer work at the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry and St. Charles Parish Library.
“Every day our team witnesses the profound impact serious injuries have on our clients and their loved ones. We created this scholarship to recognize students who show strength in the face of adversity,” said Loyd J. Bourgeois, founder of LJB Legal. “Braden and Danica are examples of what it means to push forward when life doesn’t go as planned. Their perseverance is inspiring, and we’re honored to support them as they begin the next step in their journeys.”
The LJB Legal Injury and Disability Scholarship awards $2,000 each to one graduate of Hahnville High School and one graduate of Destrehan High School who have overcome personal adversity related to injury or disability and plan to attend a four-year college or university.
