LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – A group of local students received a boost toward their educational futures thanks to the generosity of a local sorority and community foundation.
The Sigma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., in partnership with the Sisters in Service Community Foundation, awarded scholarships to students from Lima Senior, Elida, Shawnee, and Lima Central Catholic high schools. The scholarship funds were raised through the sorority’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast and donations from local businesses. The sorority hopes the scholarships empower the students to make meaningful contributions in their communities.

“Our goal is number one, to promote and and to encourage our students to step up and make the best of themselves. We feel that they have been chosen because of their commitment to education and their commitment to their community, and our desire is for them to see nothing but success,” said Andrea King, Parliamentarian of the Sigma Mu Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
“It means a lot to me, because it helps me put money towards my college education to make me a better person and help the world. I’m looking forward to helping underserved communities, helping the community that raised me, and giving back to those who need it the most,” said Terrionna Bagley, senior at Lima Senior High School.
