A local Indigenous woman is among three Ontario students that have each received $10,000 as part of Ontario Power Generation’s John Wesley Beaver Memorial Scholarship Program.
On scholarships goes to Brittney Pigeau, a Carleton University student from North Bay and member of the Marten Falls First Nation, who is studying Environmental Studies, while minoring in Criminology and Psychology. She plans a future career related to the environment.
Other recipients are Desiree Boulter, a Biology student at Algoma University who is from Bruce Mines and a member of the Red Rock Indian Band. Her future goals involve educating and inspiring people on the subject of sustainable living.
Tiffany Plain, is a member of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation near Sarnia, and is studying Chemical Production and Power Engineering Technology at Lambton College. She would like to become a Nuclear Operator when she completes her studies.
“Receiving this scholarship has significantly assisted in meeting school-related expenses, allowing me to live close to school to complete my studies,” said scholarship recipient Brittney Pigeau. “I would highly encourage other students to apply for this award.”
Named after one of the most notable engineers in OPG’s history, the John Wesley Beaver Memorial Scholarship was established in 1995 by OPG’s predecessor, Ontario Hydro.
The award is administered by OPG's Indigenous Circle, a resource and networking group for Indigenous employees.
First Nations (status or non-status), Inuit or Métis students are eligible for the John Wesley Beaver Scholarship. Learn more about eligibility and how to apply.
