The Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority awarded eight scholarships to students across Shelby County and surrounding communities — including one from Chilton County High School. Chase Lowe, a class of 2025 graduate at CCHS, was one of the six high school students that received a scholarship from the organization. Two scholarships were presented to post-secondary students attending area institutions.
“These scholarships reflect our chapter’s ongoing commitment to educational development and community empowerment,” a press release from the Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority said. “The Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter remains steadfast in our mission to empower communities through educational development. We fulfill this mission by providing scholarships and academic support initiatives that encourage academic excellence while inspiring young leaders to make meaningful contributions to their communities.”
Lowe was a member of the academic letter club as an A-B honor roll student while at CCHS. Lowe plans to use the scholarship to explore various fields of study at Auburn University this fall.
Students across four different school districts — Alabaster, Chilton County, Hoover and Shelby County, were awarded scholarships. Other students were Addison Foster of Chelsea High School, Alyson Ragland from Helena High School, Ava Fields from Oak Mountain High School, Kayden Washington from Thompson High School, Laila Sibley from Spain Park High School, Ashlee Mack from Jefferson State Community College’s Workforce Development Program and Xavier Henderson from the University of Montevallo.
The Shelby Area Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is comprised of 171 members that help the public service organization provide public service initiatives that benefit Bibb, Chilton and Shelby Counties. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University, and the Shelby County chapter is doing their part to continue the same principles it was started upon.
“We believe that investing in students is essential for building a brighter future, and we are honored to support each recipient on their educational journey,” the press release said.
