MANA de Topeka hosts third annual Suave Agave gala to raise funds for scholarships – WIBW

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Folks savored signature dishes and sipped on some tequila at the third annual Suave Agave gala.
The gala was held at Townsite Center in Downtown Topeka and was hosted by MANA de Topeka, a non-profit organization that is part of a national Latina organization, established by Mexican American women to empower Latinas through leadership development, community service, and advocacy.
Guests were invited to learn the art of tequila tasting, indulge in a tequila-infused four-course dinner, enjoy traditional music, and participate in a live and silent auction.
This year’s gala just so happened to fall on Dia de los Muertos, so attendees were also encouraged to add pictures or trinkets to a community altar to honor loved ones who have passed.
The Suave Agave gala serves as a major fundraiser for MANA de Topeka, which allows them to provide scholarships to Latinas wanting to pursue higher-level education.
“Growing up, higher education is not always on the front end for maybe a lot of Latinas,” MANA de Topeka president Gabriella Guerrero said. “I think that it’s just really important to know that they have support in the community.“
13’s Reina Flores served as emcee for the event.
