The Community Foundation of Jackson County has announced that Morgan Waskom and Emmah Bridgewater have been named the 2024 recipients of the Marc Owen Chandler Memorial Scholarship.
Morgan, the daughter of Jill and Brent Waskom, has graduated with a Core 40 technical honors diploma and plans to attend Ivy Tech Columbus in the fall to major in nursing.
Emmah, the daughter of Scott and Melinda Bridgewater, has graduated with a Core 40 curriculum and plans to attend Ball State University in the fall to major in child development, psychology or special education.
Owen, Liam and Myles Chandler, nephews of Marc Chandler, presented the award at Seymour High School on May 17 — Honor Day. Skip and Carol Chandler established the Marc Owen Chandler Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Community Foundation of Jackson County in Oct. 1996, in memory of their son. The fund provides scholarships for advanced education and training to seniors of Seymour High School.
The fund has steadily grown over the past 27 years, thanks to the continuing support of Marc Chandler’s family and friends. To date, 41 students have received assistance in college and technical expenses through scholarshops from this fund.
Incoming Seymour High School seniors interested in applying for this scholarship should go online at www.cfjacksoncounty.org to fill out an application that will be due no later than Aug. 19.
Anyone may make a gift to the Marc Owen Chandler Memorial Scholarship Fund by contacting the foundation at 812-523-4483. Donations may also be made to this fund and the foundation’s other funds.
