MARIETTA — Marietta Community Foundation announced that applications are now open for over 60 scholarships, offering approximately $500,000 in financial aid.
Scholarships are available for students pursuing a college degree, honing their craft at a trade school or joining the nation’s military, according to a release from the foundation. Support extends across Washington and Noble counties and Wood County, W.Va.
The support of donors makes opportunities like the Harold & Diane Tuten memorial Scholarship possible, the release said.
“This scholarship was created in memory of our parents, who believed in the power of education to transform lives,” said Rachel Klinger, daughter of Harold and Diane Tuten. “It reflects their commitment to helping others, no matter their circumstances. By supporting a high school senior beginning their educational journey and a non-traditional student seeking to improve their future, we hope to empower individuals to achieve their goals and inspire positive change.”
The scholarships reflect the diversity and potential of students in the community, the release said.
“Scholarship season is a key aspect of our work at the foundation,” said Britani Merritt, donor and program services director. “Our donors are deeply committed to providing opportunities that help students in our region access the funding they need to pursue their dreams and succeed on their chosen paths.”
Recipients are selected based on qualities like academic performance, community service, leadership, character and financial need. All applications are reviewed through a blind process to allow merit and potential to take center stage, the release said.

With over $33 million in grants and scholarships and more than $60 million in assets across nearly 400 funds, the foundation’s goal is to empower individuals, families, businesses, and organizations across Washington County to drive transformative, lasting impact, the release said.
