HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community celebrated the recipients of the Mary Reitz Scholarship during a ceremony on Tuesday evening.
The three recipients will receive up to $30,000 to further their education. Kashif Polous-Masih and Daniela Montero Ruiz, who are both Certified Nursing Assistants at VMRC. Faith Sisler was the third recipient, who will enter Eastern Mennonite University in the fall, are the first to receive this award.
Each recipient shared their personal experiences at the ceremony, and their passions for the healthcare field.
As the ceremony brought together family, residents, staff, and donors, it also highlighted the impact the scholarship will have, not just for the recipients but for the community as a whole.
“We are facing monumental changes as we approach a new and unprecedented number of aging adults, and for VMRC to be able to give the gift of furthering education and encouraging people to pursue a career in healthcare is amazing,” Rebecca Kline, Vice President for Supportive Living at VMRC, said.
The ceremony was a celebration of the recipients, but also a way to show off their hard work and dedication to the field.
“Last night was truly one of the most humbling experiences that I have had working in senior living,” Kline said.
