May 5, 2025 – Sandpiper Supply, Inc., a multi-generational local plumbing supplier and showroom, announced the winners of their seventh annual scholarships to local students. The first place recipient, Hart Tedder of H.V. Jenkins High School, will receive a $1000 cash award for his winning essay. Second place Elizabeth Perry of Savannah Country Day School will receive $500, and the third place essay by Audrey Garlick of Richmond Hill High School will receive $250. Six honorable mention scholarships of $100 each were awarded to Lauren Smith, Reyce Ripley, Seanna Elkassas, Tien Vu, Riley Stringer, and Jacques King.
This year there was one scholarship essay that stood out for its insight and moving tribute to Savannah. That essay, written by Kaiya Hall of Savannah Arts Academy will receive the first John C. Howard, Jr Memorial Award of $2000. Chat Howard, President of Sandpiper Supply remarked, “In presenting this award, we honor both Kaiya’s captivating reflection on Savannah and the meaning of home, and the memory of John C. Howard, Jr., our founder, whose legacy continues to shape and inspire our company’s commitment to this community.”.
The scholarship is open yearly to high school seniors of good standing in the Chatham, Effingham, and Bryan counties.
“Our hope is that these seniors will carry with them the formative experiences of their years in the Low Country, cultivate their talents through higher education, and one day return to contribute to the continued growth and vitality of Savannah,” said Christy Ellis, Marketing and Scholarship Director at Sandpiper.
To date, over $20,000 in scholarships from Sandpiper Supply have been awarded. Detailed information on how to apply and a link to this year’s winning essay can be found on their website, www.sandpipersav.com.
