KATY, TX (Covering Katy News) — Mayde Creek High School senior Kayla Rinehart has been awarded a prestigious Navy ROTC Scholarship after four years of dedication to the school’s Navy JROTC program. The scholarship will fully cover her college tuition and secure her future commission as an officer.
Rinehart will attend Rutgers University in New Jersey where she plans to pursue nursing studies. Following graduation, she intends to serve as a Navy nurse.
“Kayla has been a committed member of the JROTC unit here and is beloved by her classmates and her instructors,” said Lizzie Herring, principal of Mayde Creek High School. “I am so proud of her for earning this scholarship and I commend her for wanting to serve our country after college.”
The Navy ROTC Scholarship offers recipients various career paths including general naval service, nursing, or pre-med tracks after completing their college education. This academic year, Rinehart joins several other students from the District who have earned this valuable opportunity.
