HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2025. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Johnaton Haywood, a senior at Mayde Creek High School, is this week’s KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner. Mayde Creek High School is part of the Katy Independent School District.
Haywood is a multi-sport athlete who served as Captain of the school’s football team. He received All-District athletic honors. Haywood also competes in track and lists powerlifting, baseball and golf among his other activities.
To say Haywood is a leader would be an understatement. He serves in a leadership role for his school’s chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He is also active on the Principal’s Student Leadership Team, the Student Athletic Leadership Team and the Superintendent’s Leadership Team. He was selected as one of Mayde Creek’s representatives to attend a national leadership conference.
Haywood mentors younger students in Katy ISD. He also volunteers through his church food pantry.
This fall Haywood will attend Southern Nazarene University to study Business Management.
