Summit high school juniors and seniors have an exciting opportunity to earn a $1,000 scholarship through the Louis Bay 2nd Future Municipal Leaders Scholarship Competition. This statewide initiative highlights the role of local government and civic engagement.
According to information released by Summit officials, Mayor Elizabeth Fagan, MD, in partnership with the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, is encouraging students to participate in the competition, which is centered on the theme “What I Like About My Hometown.”
The contest aims to inspire young people to reflect on the contributions of elected officials and volunteers in shaping their communities.
“Our elected officials and volunteers dedicate their time and talents year-round to improving our city,” said Mayor Fagan.
“I hope this scholarship competition encourages students to think about the impact of local government and the ways it helps make Summit such a special place. I strongly encourage all eligible students to apply.”
The competition is open to high school juniors and seniors residing in Summit, with a submission deadline of March 7, 2025. Mayor Fagan will select one local semi-finalist, who will then be considered for the statewide competition.
The New Jersey State League of Municipalities Scholarship Committee will review submissions and select 15 finalists. Three winners will receive $1,000 scholarships.
Students can find more details and access the application on the City of Summit website at cityofsummit.org/scholarship](https://www.cityofsummit.org/scholarship.
