The McMullen County Junior Livestock Show was held on Jan. 23-24, and despite the early morning frigid temperatures, young participants were all smiles as they showed their projects. The fair, presented by the Tilden Livestock Scholarship Association, provides an opportunity for McMullen County 4-H and FFA members to showcase their animals and homemaking projects, all while competing for scholarships that benefit their future educational plans.
On Thursday, students presented their animals, with the following results:

During the show, animals were not only judged but students also competed in the showmanship competition. This event evaluates how well the students present and handle their animals. The winners of the competition were:
Swine: Leighton Harlos, junior division and Rebecca Smith, senior division
Lamb: Hunter Kollman, junior division and Isabella Weiss, senior division
Goat: Hannah Smith, junior division and Levi Anderson, senior division
Steer: Marina George, junior division and Cross Smith, senior division
Rabbit: Guy Owen, junior division and Cammie Taylor, senior division.
In addition, the “Little Britches” contest gave children in kindergarten through second grade the chance to show an animal. Sonny Swaim took home the win in the goat category, while Reecelyn Buehrer was the winner in the swine category.
