The Pittsburg County Retired Educators offer a scholarship grant for current educators within thecounty for classroom materials that would be used to further the educational opportunities of students.
Applications for the $500 grant were due before Thanksgiving break to PCRE.
Ms. Lindsay McMullen, a teacher at Puterbaugh Upper Elementary in McAlester, was selected as the 2024-25 recipient for this grant by the PCRE Scholarship Committee.
Her application said the materials will focus on Social Studies. Ms. McMullen said she would use this funding for world maps identifying various physical features, and USA maps containing features such as states, capitals, and USA monuments for her classroom. In addition, she will obtain materials that promote higher level thinking and problem solving for her fourth grade class.
A formal award presentation took place on Jan. 7, 2025, with Principal Kathy Hunt and several Puterbaugh staff members in attendance.
Ms. McMullen will make a presentation later this school year at a monthly PCRE meeting on the response from her students to the materials she was able to obtain through this donation.
