The Madison County Retired Educators Association met May 14 at the Ila Restaurant.
Special guests at the meeting were the two 2024 Madison County High School scholarship winners: Kaylee Baker and Gibson Krolikowski. Baker will pursue a degree in early childhood education and Krolikowski plans to pursue a degree in music education.
“The MCREA is proud to award scholarships to these two deserving students planning to make a career as an educator,” leaders said.
Eight members of the MCREA attended the Georgia Retired Educators Association state convention held May 7-9 at the Classic Center in Athens. Information from the convention was shared by the attending members. MCREA was honored as a Unit of Excellence. “We are proud of the organization’s performance during the 2023-2024 year,” leaders said.
The May meeting was the last regular meeting of the 2023-2024 year. New officers for the 2024-2025 year were installed by Brenda Hill. Officers include Beth Thornton, president; Faye Harris, treasurer; and Debbie Morris, secretary.
President Beth Thornton thanked everyone for their participation and service during the 2023-2024 year. A special thank you and recognition was given to Karen Harrison, who served as secretary of the MCREA for 10 years.
