CARMI — Meadow Springs Renewable Energy awarded $10,000 in scholarships to two local high school seniors from its scholarship program. Recipients are Mattie McArthy of Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School, and Kinley Carter of Carmi-White County High School.
Chosen from a competitive pool of applicants, they are recognized for commitment to giving back and making positive change within their communities.
They will each be awarded $5,000 to assist with higher education costs such as tuition, books, and other associated expenses.
McArthy, a senior at Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School, plans to pursue a nursing degree and eventually become a nurse practitioner specializing in dermatology.
Carter, a senior at Carmi-White County High School, said she faced medical challenges as a child, and was inspired to become an MRI technologist.
“At Vesper Energy, we’re committed to investing in a better future for White County, and that begins with supporting the next generation of leaders,” said Peter Stockus, community affairs manager at Meadow Springs Renewable Energy. “Students like Mattie and Kinley represent the promise of tomorrow, and we’re proud to help them take the next step in their education through the Meadow Springs Renewable Energy Scholarship Program.”
Meadow Springs Renewable Energy is a 150-megawatt solar generation and storage project being developed by Vesper Energy that will generate enough renewable energy to power more than 15,000 Illinois homes. The Meadow Springs Renewable Energy Scholarship program is open to local high school students pursuing higher education.
