SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane community continues to remember Maddie Mogen, Ethan Chapin, Kaylee Goncalves, and Xana Kernodle, who were lost 873 days ago. Their memories are kept alive through the Made With Kindness Foundation, which aims to honor these individuals.
The foundation raises money for local scholarships in the names of Maddie, Kaylee, and Xana. Shayla Anderson, involved with the foundation, said, “I would hope that they’re just proud and I hope they feel honored and loved and missed they are.”
In Coeur d’Alene, two benches have been installed at City Park to honor Kaylee, Maddie, and Xana. Anderson shared the significance, stating, “It was really important. We’ll never have like a burial site or anything like that, so just having somewhere, where you can potentially run into someone who might be mourning as well, who you don’t know, but share that special angel.”
The foundation’s efforts extend beyond physical memorials. This year, twelve local students will receive $2,500 scholarships, ensuring the legacies of the girls continue to impact the community. Anderson explained, “They just won’t be these angels in the sky, they’re really leaders that we get to shine a light onto. In 10, 20 years, their lives will be still being spread, and it’ll just be like they’re there with me, growing up with us.”
Despite the ongoing pain, the foundation’s work provides a source of healing. Anderson described it as “sacred, but it’s also the most beautiful thing I’ve been a part of.”
The Made With Kindness Foundation encourages community members to engage with their mission. Click here for more information on the Made With Kindness Foundation.
