This is the fourth year for the Memorial Health Volunteer Services Scholarship.
Finally, a selection committee has awarded the winner of the 2025 Dr. Douglas S. Skura Scholarship, a medical school scholarship created by the Medical Staff of Memorial Hospital in memory of Douglas Stephen Skura, MD. Dr. Skura was a compassionate Memorial Health team member and devoted physician for over 15 years. He provided unwavering dedication to his patients and found great purpose in taking care of others. This scholarship was established to recognize the contributions he made to medicine and honor his legacy.
This year’s recipient is Katie Krueger, a 2021 graduate of Marysville High School. Krueger has earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with minors in Biology and Chemistry from Lee University. This fall she plans to attend medical school at one of the following institutions — the University of Toledo College of Medicine, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, or East Tennessee State University College of Medicine.
The Dr. Douglas S. Skura Scholarship is intended to defray costs of tuition, lab fees, and text books while working toward the attainment of either a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). The applicant must currently reside in Union County, Ohio; have graduated from a high school in Union County, Ohio; be employed at Memorial Hospital (Marysville, Ohio); or be an immediate relative of an employee at Memorial Hospital.
