A Mesa man has been awarded a prestigious graduate fellowship after his selection in the 10th class of Schwarzman Scholars.
Jordan Harb, a senior at Arizona State University, won the scholarship, which is designed “to address the complex geopolitical landscape of the 21st century” and “prepare the next generation of global leaders,” according to a release.
Harb, who is studying global studies and political science, led a task force on school safety.
He has authored statewide socio-emotional policies, successfully advocated for $15 million in funding for school counselors, and traveled to 30 countries.
At the Evergreen Fund, Harb leads an innovation accelerator program focused on how startups can advance mental health solutions.
“As the child of refugees, he is deeply committed to addressing global challenges related to trauma, conflict, and education through policy, international cooperation, and innovation,” Schwarzman College said.
Harb is one of 150 scholars selected from a pool of over 5,000 applicants from 38 different counties.
He will attend a one-year, fully-funded master’s in global affairs program at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
With the incoming class, the Schwarzman Scholars network now includes over 1,300 members from 104 countries and 459 institutions worldwide.
“Schwarzman Scholars alumni have demonstrated immense leadership capacity, trailblazing in a number of industries and collaborating to tackle pressing issues all around the world,” the college said.
Scholars are selected through a competitive application process designed to identify leadership potential, intellect, and strength of character. Close to 400 candidates were invited to interview with panels of CEOs, government leaders, university presidents, and nonprofit executives, among others.
Schwarzman Scholars was established in 2013 by founding trustee Stephen A. Schwarzman. Information: schwarzmanscholars.org
