Recent Marquette High graduate David Moss has earned the 2025 Metro West Firefighters Community Outreach Annual Scholarship.
The $2,000 scholarship benefits a senior who is a resident of the Metro West Fire Protection District. The application materials ask students to write an essay detailing what core values define their lives, how these values guide their education and how they will ultimately have a positive impact on the students’ communities.
“I have found that service, environmentalism, a commitment to learning and compassion for others are four of my core values, and they are reflected in my actions,” Moss wrote in his application essay. “While my ideas and beliefs may change, I hope I will remain true to these values throughout my life and continue to reflect them in everything I do.”
Moss plans to attend Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, and study mechanical engineering. In high school, he was president of the Marquette Environmental Coalition, editor-in-chief of the Messenger, played piano in the Marquette Jazz Ensemble and was a member of National Honor Society, Model U.N. and Mustangs’ cross country and track and field teams.
