DENTON – The Mean Green Scholarship Fund has announced the hiring of Esteban Arriola as Assistant Athletic Director for Development.
"We are extremely excited to have Esteban join our team" said Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development Carl Evans. "His dynamic background in fund raising and experience as a student athlete will enhance our already great Mean Green Scholarship Fund staff. I have no doubt we’re going to see significant growth in our annual fund under Esteban’s leadership. I look forward to working with him and continuing to build on the moment UNT Athletics has established the past few years."
Arriola joins the MGSF staff from San Diego State University, where he served as the director of SDSU’s Aztec Club. In this role, he managed day-to-day operations of the annual fund while managing a portfolio of over 100 Aztec Club members, including major gifts donors. During the 2020-21 fiscal year, he was able to raise $1.4 million over the Aztec Club’s annual target.
Prior to his time at San Diego State, Arriola served as the assistant director of the University of Ohio Bobcat Club from July 2016 to March 2018. While at Ohio, he was part of a team that raised an all-time high amount to the university’s annual fund.
From September 2015 to May 2016, Arriola worked as a development assistant with Butler University’s Bulldog Club. During this time, he also held a leadership development intern position with the NCAA, where he worked to provide community service projects and professional networking opportunities to hundreds of student-athletes.
Before pursuing his career in college athletics, Arriola taught for the McKinney Independent School District, while also coaching 7th and 8th grade boys basketball.
Arriola received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and sports studies from Texas A&M Commerce in 2011 before completing a master’s degree in athletics administration, also from TAMUC, in 2013. He was a member of the Lions men’s basketball program during all five years at the university.
