MHS Graduate selected for GFA Scholarship
Candler County student Agatha Grimes has been named a recipient of a Georgia Foundation for Agriculture (GFA) Scholarship.
Grimes is one of 11 graduating high school seniors statewide selected to receive a $3,000 scholarship to attend college.
“These scholarships are an investment in the future of farming in Georgia,” said GFA Board Chairman and GFB President Tom McCall. “The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture and Georgia Farm Bureau are committed to cultivating tomorrow’s agricultural leaders, and we’re eager to see what these deserving students accomplish.”
Grimes, the daughter of Jason and Jenny Grimes, is a 2025 graduate from Metter High School.
She plans to attend the University of Georgia and study agricultural communications.
At MHS, she received awards for highest average in honors history and honors chemistry, as well as the UGA Georgia Certificate of Merit and being named to the principal’s honor roll.
She has been extensively involved in both 4-H and FFA, serving in numerous leadership roles in each, including Candler County 4-H president, 4-H state board representative and MHS FFA chapter president.
She earned Master 4-H’er designation in the sheep and meat goats project area and in the 4-H Key Award and has received the Candler County 4-H’er of the year.
Grimes also served as a One Georgia Urban/ Rural Agricultural Experience ambassador and as a Georgia Grown Baby Barn ambassador at the Georgia National Fair.
The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture scholarships recognize deserving and outstanding students pursuing an agriculture or ag-related degree at an eligible technical college (such as welding, diesel mechanics, vet tech) or college in the University System of Georgia, Berry College or Emmanuel University.
Instructions for applying for the 2026-27 scholarships will be posted on the GFA website this fall.
