Midland College awards over $1.4 million in scholarships for fall semester – CBS7

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) – Midland College awarded over $1.4 million in scholarships to students for the Fall 2025 semester, reaching a historic milestone for the institution.
“We are doing our best to get as much money into as many students’ hands as possible,” said Megan Brincks, the Dean of Recruitment and Student Aid at Midland College.
This money has provided over 1,000 students with financial support.
One factor is that years ago, Midland College got rid of the scholarship application process for over 200 general scholarships.
“Removing that scholarship application is one piece of how Midland College is looking very critical at all our processes. By doing that, over time, we’re getting more and more effective with how we are using our scholarship dollars,” Brincks said.
Students need to be registered for at least six credit hours and complete the current years FAFSA or TASFA to be eligible.
Scholarships are awarded based on several factors, a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, financial need, program of study, student involvement and special interests.
Special consideration is also given to non-traditional students who are returning to college or entering a new career field.
“One population that we’re trying to work with more is our GED students. We have developed a first class free for all GED students if they have never attended college before. They can see that college is for them. If they want to pressure something they really can,” said Brincks.
This is all part of Midland College’s mission to make higher education accessible and affordable for all students.
“We’re doing our best to eliminate as many barriers as possible for students to come to school,” Brincks said.
