If you haven’t applied for the Rockhounds Scholarship, now is the time!
You could be one of the lucky recipients of a $1,000 scholarship to support your education.
The scholarship is for all graduating seniors in the Midland-Odessa area that are scheduled to graduate this spring and plan to enroll in college for the fall 2025 semester.
For the past 20 years, Midland Rockhounds have chosen five high school seniors to receive the scholarship money.
They are chosen by a group of Rockhounds employees based on how well they are doing in and out of the classroom.
Jonathan Simmons, Community Relations Manager at Midland Rockhounds, said, “I think if you talk to any college student 1,000 dollars will go a long way whether it’s buying textbooks, buying a new computer, buying just what you need or even if it’s just buying food for next year.”
Simmons says the students are always appreciative of the opportunity.
One student wrote him and letter that he still has to this day. She thanks Rockhounds for choosing her to receive the scholarship money.
He continued, “She was like this is a great honor, this helps me out so much. And she just detailed like what this money’s going to and its letter like that, that makes me love this job.”
The deadline to apply for the scholarship is May 9th.

Midland Rockhounds urges everyone to apply.
“I know I’m making an impact for not only the organization, but other people as well in the community,” said Simmons.
