MILLSBORO, Del- A Sussex Academy graduate will represent Delaware on a national stage this month as she competes in the Distinguished Young Women National Finals in Mobile, Alabama.
Caroline Carlisle, a 2025 graduate of Sussex Academy, will travel to Mobile on Tuesday, June 17, to take part in the 68th annual national competition, which will be held June 26-28 at the Saenger Theater. According to the organization, she is one of 50 high school girls from across the country vying for $136,000 in cash scholarships and the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2025.
Carlisle was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Delaware earlier this year and has spent recent months preparing for the national finals. Participants will be evaluated in five categories: scholastics, interview, fitness, talent and self-expression.
During her two-week stay in Mobile, Carlisle will participate in community service projects, attend local events, and engage in several rehearsals for the scholarship showcase. She and other state representatives will also connect in team-building activities and interact with people living along the Gulf Coast.
“We are excited to welcome the 50 outstanding state representatives to Mobile for the 68th annual National Finals of Distinguished Young Women,” said Carole Hegwood, executive director of Distinguished Young Women. “These young women are accomplished, talented, intelligent, and have exciting futures ahead of them.”
If selected as the national winner, Carlisle will spend the next year promoting the organization and serving as an ambassador for its Be Your Best Self outreach program, which encourages students to be healthy, involved, studious, ambitious and responsible.
