MILTON, Wis. (WMTV) – A 15-year-old Milton high schooler was awarded a scholarship from the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association (WTBA) on Thursday.
The scholarship is awarded to new drivers who complete the WTBA’s free online program.
Sophomore Aron Nuredini was awarded $500 in a ceremony outside his school.
The program is designed to educate students on what they will see when driving through work zones. The program highlights Wisconsinites who have been impacted by crashes.
“This has been really important in humanizing the people that are working behind the barrels in construction zones,” said program teacher Steve Steinke said. “Every session now I have kids, like Aron, who take that course, work their way through it, and I always reiterate at the end you can get something out of this besides a $500 check. You get that knowledge of what you’re doing, that it’s important everyone gets home.”
Over 2,000 students have completed the course, which helps new driver’s fulfil their state-mandated 30 minutes of work zone-specific education.
