The Miss Western Week Scholarship Program, one of Bee County’s longest-running traditions, was honored Thursday during the 13th Annual Eagle Ford Excellence Awards hosted by the South Texas Energy & Economic Roundtable (STEER).
The program received the Neighborhood Impression Award, recognizing its contributions to youth leadership and community development. Established as a 501(c)(3) organization, Miss Western Week empowers young women to lead with confidence, character, and purpose while awarding educational scholarships to middle school and high school students.
In partnership with Coastal Bend College and local businesses, the program provides workshops on college readiness, financial literacy, and personal development, along with mentorship from women leaders across Texas. It culminates in a pageant that celebrates intellect, community engagement, and personal growth.
“We are so grateful to the Texas Oil & Gas Association and STEER for honoring our program,” said Anna Marie Silvas, who accepted the award on behalf of the nonprofit. “We could not continue this tradition without the support of our local business community, the Bee County Commissioners Court, the Beeville City Council, or Coastal Bend College, which matches our scholarship efforts.”
Other recipients of this year’s Eagle Ford Excellence Awards included the San Antonio Food Bank, South Texas Recovery Foundation, Repsol, CERA Solutions, and EOG Resources. The awards honor organizations connected to the oil and natural gas industry for their achievements in environmental stewardship, innovation, safety, and community service.
“The partnership between energy and community has never been stronger in South Texas,” said Todd Staples, president of the Texas Oil & Gas Association. “The work being done in the Eagle Ford Shale not only powers modern life but also funds our schools, invests in our communities, and creates opportunity for thousands of Texans.”
Event sponsors included ConocoPhillips, EOG Resources, Repsol, TXOGA Insurance Agency, Valero, and Texas Mutual.
