MIT Air Force ROTC cadet named finalist for national scholarship – Wicked Local
William Roberts, an Air Force cadet at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was recently named a finalist for the Navy Federal Credit Union ROTC All-American Scholarship Program, according to a community announcement.
Roberts, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills during his time at MIT, according to the announcement.
He served as a flight commander, leading his cadets to an Honor Flight Award, which is given to the best flight of cadets each academic term. He also received the S24 Warrior Spirit award, which is given to one cadet in each class who best exemplifies the Air Force warrior spirit, and was appointed deputy wing commander.
The scholarship program honors the top ROTC seniors throughout the nation, highlighting those who best embody the pillars of leadership, military excellence, scholarship and service, according to the announcement. As a finalist, Roberts will receive a $2,500 scholarship, and MIT’s ROTC Booster Club or Student Fund will receive a $1,500 donation.
From the 15 finalists, Navy Federal will select and honor the top Air Force, Army and Navy/Marine students as the three ROTC All-American Scholarship Program Students of the Year, according to the announcement. Students of the Year will be announced in early December and will each receive a $6,500 scholarship, a $5,000 donation to their Booster Club or Student Fund, be honored guests of the Go Bowling Military Bowl on Dec. 27 and featured on ESPN’s broadcast of the game.
