RED BANK, NJ — Auditions for the Monmouth Civic Chorus’ annual scholarships will take place this spring, the chorus announced Tuesday.
Each year, Monmouth Civic Chorus holds auditions to award scholarships to vocally talented high school seniors throughout New Jersey who are planning to pursue higher education.
$3,000 in scholarship funds will be available to award to students of “outstanding vocal promise,” the chorus said.
Contestants must perform two contrasting selections from the standard vocal repertoire (opera, operetta, art songs, oratorio, or Gilbert and Sullivan). It’s preferred (though not required) for candidates to present one selection in a language other than English, officials said.
Musical theater selections are acceptable, though pop is not. Contestants will be judged on technique, choice of material, poise, and musicianship.
Scholarship auditions will be held on Saturday, May 17, starting at 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Red Bank.
The application deadline is May 12 at 5 p.m., and winners will be announced on May 18. There is a $10 application fee. To access the application form, you can click here.
In 2024, four students were awarded scholarships from the chorus, including; Maria Guerrero of Little Silver (1st place), Olivia Crowe of Point Pleasant Beach (tied for 2nd place), Jacob Phelps of Helmetta (tied for 2nd place), and Bryan Reimertz of Red Bank (honorable mention).
