MONROE, CT — Volunteers collected boxes of old documents, as well as unwanted computers, for the Monroe Lions Club’s annual Shred Day, held in the Rite Aid pharmacy parking lot on Main Street Saturday. Ivon Philibert, an employee for Affordable Solutions LLC, put the materials in a plastic bin, which was lifted up into the box truck to be shredded.
The volunteers placed traffic cones in the parking lot to keep vehicles moving in an orderly way.
The club has been active in town lately. On Masuk High School’s annual Senior Awards Night last May, the Lions presented a $3,000 scholarship to Maxton Busa.
Busa, a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts of America (now Scouting America), recently earned his Eagle Scout rank, the highest rank attainable in the program. It signifies a significant achievement in leadership, service and personal growth.
Busa chose the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library as the beneficiary of his Eagle Scout project. He designed and built shelving for the library’s new collection, the Library of Things, which allows library patrons to borrow bulky items like camping equipment, yard games and telescopes, and to donate items for others to use.
Busa will attend Housatonic Community College to attain an associate’s degree in cybersecurity. He intends to continue his studies at a four-year university.
