MONROE, CT — The Breaking Barriers Scholarship, the first ever to be awarded by the Monroe Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA), was created to recognize and celebrate the strength, determination and advocacy of students with IEPs and 504 Plans in the community.
Applications are now being accepted for the program, in which a minimum of two $500 scholarships will be awarded.
This is more than a financial award, it is a symbol of recognition, encouragement and belief in every student’s potential. SEPTA’s mission is to uplift students who have overcome challenges, embraced their unique learning journeys, and demonstrated growth, leadership or self-advocacy.
Whether through academics, community involvement or personal perseverance, these students are breaking barriers, and the organization is honored to support them as they move toward their next chapter.
To be eligible for a Breaking Barriers Scholarship, students must have a current IEP or 504 Plan, live in Monroe, be a high school senior graduating this year, and use the award money toward postsecondary education, vocational training or job skill training.
The applicant’s parent/guardian must be a current member of Monroe SEPTA for the 2024–2025 school year.
