The Ray Goodgame Scholarship continues to shine a spotlight on exceptional students in the South Lake area who go above and beyond as champions for their community. This month, the prestigious honor has been awarded to Sophie Ressler, a student at Montverde Academy, recognizing her exemplary leadership and dedication.
Sheri Olson, representing Orlando Health as the 2024 Board Chair of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce, presented Sophie with the $1,000 Ray Goodgame Outstanding Student Leader award. With a remarkable 4.4 GPA and an impressive academic portfolio, Sophie is an AP Scholar and serves as the president of the Rho Kappa National Honor Society. Her scholastic achievements are only a part of her inspiring journey.
As president of Montverde Academy’s Disciplinary Committee Program, Sophie leads efforts to innovate school discipline by encouraging students to contribute meaningful insights. Beyond academics, she is a standout athlete on her school’s Cross-Country and Track and Field teams, exemplifying determination and teamwork.
Sophie’s leadership extends far beyond the classroom and the track. She is the director of a major cancer fundraiser, dedicating eight hours a week to its mission of raising $20,000 annually for cancer research. Her commitment to making a difference doesn’t stop there.

Sophie is also a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability. As a spokesperson for Lake Forever, she played a pivotal role in campaigning for the renewal of a $50 million bond dedicated to preserving natural lands and clean water. Thanks to her advocacy, the bond measure passed overwhelmingly, underscoring her impact on the community.
With aspirations to pursue a career in environmental law, Sophie is already making waves as a force for change. The Ray Goodgame Scholarship highlights her extraordinary contributions and sets her apart as a role model for students and community members alike.
Congratulations to Sophie Ressler on this well-deserved recognition!
