WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – A Career Readiness Academy at Mosley student was awarded the final Remember Carly Rae scholarship for this year during the school’s graduation ceremony on Wednesday, June 5.
Kevin Candelo was awarded the $1,000 scholarship, which is named in honor of Carly Rae Baron. Candelo was one of the 11 “Remember Carly Rae” scholarship recipients. $15,000 has been awarded in both Carly Baron scholarships this year.
Baron, a 2016 Ashley High School graduate, was killed in a 2020 shooting.
The Alex Highsmith Family Foundation and Baron family award the scholarship, which is given to eight students in New Hanover County.
