MOUNT JACKSON, Va. (WHSV) – Just a few months after the sudden death of Mount Jackson Police Officer Chazz Beaver, his former department looks to keep his memory alive.
The Mount Jackson Police Department, along with the town of Mount Jackson, have established a scholarship in officer Beaver’s name. The scholarship was created to honor Beaver’s legacy and to help others achieve their dreams.
Chief Keith Cowart said this was their way of honoring his service, sacrifice and the love he had for law enforcement. The new award was named the Officer Chazz D. Beaver Legacy Scholarship.
”The energy and excitement that he brought here to the department, we want to continue that, or be able to at least have his name out there showing that officers can have that kind of attitude, because it’s just who he was,” Cowart said. “[I] wish he was here to do it, but [it’s good] to be able to do that for somebody else, to hopefully have them, have the same energy, have the same passion for the job — just to be able to give them an opportunity, just like he had to become a law enforcement and do good for the community.”
The $2,500 scholarship will be given to applicants who are enrolled in criminal justice classes at Triplett Tech to help continue their education in the criminal justice field.
