Winners of the 2024 scholarships from the Mount Vernon Springfield Chamber of Commerce post with chamber leaders.
The Mount Vernon Springfield Chamber of Commerce has awarded 14 scholarships to local high school students planning to continue their education in a business-related field.
The Chamber’s 2024 Distinguished Business Scholars, each of whom received $2,000, are
The scholarships were presented in May at a reception hosted by the Army Historical Foundation at the National Museum of the United States Army on Fort Belvoir.
“The scholarships presented this evening not only allow these students to continue their education, but they also provide them with a framework to perhaps come back someday and make a lasting impact on our own community,” said Alex Thalacker, chair of the Chamber’s Education Partnership. “That is the true reward behind the chamber’s work.”
Holly Dougherty, president of the chamber, said at least one scholarship recipient is selected from each of the high schools in its service area “We were all inspired by these students and their goals. They have the potential to really contribute and become a positive influence in the community.”
Scholarships are made possible by donations from local businesses and by funds raised at the annual Chamber Golf Classic. Businesses that provided complete scholarships are Reworld (formerly known as Covanta Fairfax Inc.), Ourisman Automotive dealerships, CDI Inc., Palo Alto Networks, Mount Vernon Knights of Columbus and Cisco.
The chamber has awarded scholarships for more than 20 years, and this year’s awards bring the chamber’s cumulative scholarship giving to more than $332,000.

I’ll take a trade school grad over a pampered Ivy League, liberal arts grad like Educated Patriot any day. The trade school grad will work his ass off and get the job done right with no fanfare. The owner of the flooring company that just inspected the outstanding job his tradesmen just completed in my house, who makes way more $ than Educated Patriot by the way, is a trade school grad. The plumbers and electricians that you rely on when emergency strikes in your home are most likely trade school grads. Who’s relying on Educated Patriot when emergency strikes? Nobody… nobody cares about that guy and his liberal arts “educated” background.
Don’t take the bait. You have to remember the Almighty and powerful Patriot is so offended by comments he created an A.I. army and multiple aliases to “defeat” them.
Or continue to waste your time. He likes it when you do
I have one account.
And I don’t change mine every three months.
I didn’t see many plumbers on the battlefield.
Says the loser without his own profile and identity.
Uncle Sam was quick to call me during COVID. And again when domestic terrorist attacked our Capitol. And that was just as a civilian.
And no, the average trade school grad does not make as much as a retired officer, nor does a trade school grad make as much as a Managing Director at Deloitte.
FYI. Most MAGA voters are not trade school grads. Nor college grads.
College is important.
As of 2021, there is an 8.5-year difference in lifespan, with non-college-educated Americans experiencing a decline in longevity.
College grads (even liberal arts majors) have much lower unemployment than high school graduates.
Finishing college is important to success. The Mark Zuckerbergs of the world are about as common as unicorns.
