On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Mountain Bruins held their highly anticipated ‘An Evening in Paris’ gala at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge.
The event was a success, raising over $18,000 to support scholarships for local high school students accepted into UCLA and those already in attendance. Over 130 guests attended the dinner, many of whom participated in both the silent and live auctions, all in support of the cause.
Among the attendees were four current UCLA students who are some of the scholarship recipients, including Diane Zhang, Olivia Reed, Nikolai Carbaugh, Ryan Terreri, Shelby Gross and Jocelyn Broderick who shared their inspiring college journeys and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the generous donors at the gala.
Rudy Haro, president of Mountain Bruins, took the stage to emphasize the critical role the organization plays in funding these life-changing scholarships. “The support from this community makes all the difference in enabling these students to pursue their dreams at UCLA,” he said.
Former president, Jim Ferranti, served as the auctioneer for the evening, skillfully encouraging spirited bidding to drive up the value of each item. Three standout live auction items included exclusive dinners prepared by talented local chefs, which were highly sought after by attendees eager to support the cause.
“We are going to have three freshmen, five sophomore and one senior this Fall,” said Ferranti. “Each student gets $1,500 per year, so we have to come up with $13,500 next year. We are changing these young students’ life.”
First-time gala attendees, Lake Arrowhead residents Adam and Kathryn Kranson, were impressed by the event and are already planning to contribute to next year’s efforts. “We were blown away by the generosity of everyone here tonight, and we’re excited to be part of this amazing community,” said Kranson.
The evening was complemented by a delectable menu crafted by the staff at UCLA Lake Arrowhead Lodge. Guests enjoyed a range of gourmet dishes, from fresh oysters and jumbo shrimp to a mouthwatering chateaubriand that left everyone satisfied.
