WENATCHEE — The Music Theatre of Wenatchee has awarded $18,000 in scholarships to 12 local high school seniors from Wenatchee, Eastmont and Quincy high schools.
During the Apple Awards ceremony at the Numerica Performing Arts Center on Thursday, the scholarship money was distributed in amounts of either $1,000 or $2,000 to the students in recognition of their achievements in both theater arts and musical education.
This year’s scholarship money came from the MTW Joan Fadden scholarship fund and the MTW Marilyn Everhart scholarship fund. The Joan Fadden scholarship’s funds are dedicated to recognizing exceptional high school seniors in local theater arts programs, whereas the Marilyn Everhart scholarship is for students pursuing a musical education. The money for the two scholarship funds was raised through contributions of theater-goers specifically at MTW’s Riverside Playhouse productions.
“Supporting the artistic and educational growth of our local youth is a pillar of our mission at Music Theatre of Wenatchee,” said MTW president Kevin McKee. “We believe that these scholarships not only help students achieve their education goals but also enrich our community by encouraging the pursuit of the performing arts.”
