MADISON, Wisconsin — Mylah Meis of Perry, an aspiring chef with a passion for farm-fresh ingredients, has won the inaugural Farm-to-Table Culinary Scholarship from the Crossroads Community Farm, a leading Madison-area vegetable producer and champion of sustainable organic farming practices.
In announcing the scholarship, the Crossroads Community Farm said Meis, a senior at Perry High School, “has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the culinary arts. Her creativity, technical skill, and grace under pressure help her stand out.”
The scholarship will provide $10,000 of financial assistance to Meis to pursue her studies at Madison Area Technical College’s Culinary Arts Program, “where she plans to hone her skills in creating delicious dishes that highlight the rich flavors of organic produce sourced directly from local farms,” the announcement said.
“We are excited to support Mylah in her culinary journey,” said Cassie Wyss, farmer and co-owner at Crossroads Community Farm. “This scholarship reflects our commitment to cultivating the next generation of chefs who prioritize local sourcing and sustainable practices. Mylah embodies these values, and we look forward to seeing how she will use the scholarship to make a positive impact in the culinary world.”
Meis said she believes in the importance of sourcing local, organic produce in her cooking endeavors and is dedicated to promoting healthy eating and sustainable agricultural practices, values that align perfectly with Crossroads Community Farm’s desire to support local talent and foster eco-conscious culinary arts.
“I am honored to receive this scholarship from Crossroads Community Farm,” Meis said. “It means so much to me to have the support of a local farm that shares my passion. I can’t wait to take my skills to the next level and promote farm-to-table dining in our community.”
Meis will begin her coursework in the fall 2025. For more information, visit the Crossroads Community Farm website.
