The North Central Missouri College Foundation has announced the establishment of a new scholarship endowment to support students pursuing higher education at North Central Missouri College. Endowed funds distribute only a portion of their earnings annually to ensure long-term support for future students. Donors may set scholarship criteria to reflect their interests or values.
The newly established scholarship honors Caroline Stokes. The fund was created through a recent investment made by her family in memory of her life and dedication to education.
Stokes grew up on a farm near Jamesport, Missouri. She graduated from Trenton Junior College, now North Central Missouri College, in 1981 with an associate in arts degree as a non-traditional student. She worked for many years as a paraprofessional at S. M. Rissler Elementary School and was committed to assisting young students. Family and friends were central in her life. Stokes passed away on February 22, 2025, at the age of 91.
The Caroline Stokes Scholarship was created to support students majoring in education. The first award is scheduled to be presented in the fall of 2026.
“Starting a scholarship is a very personal commitment by our donors who not only have a passion to help others but also have pride in North Central Missouri College and how it has impacted their lives or the lives of a loved one,” said NCMC Foundation Executive Director Alicia Endicott. “The impact a scholarship has on a student is immense, and without donors who believe in what the college, foundation is doing, no scholarship would be possible for our students,” Endicott added.
The NCMC Foundation’s total scholarship endowment now exceeds $9 million. This growth has resulted from donor generosity and oversight by the Foundation’s board of directors. Students benefit not only from financial aid but also from the encouragement and recognition of their academic efforts.
